History of TBASCO

The idea for a Thunder Bay ASCA affiliate club originated with Tanya Wheeler, of Tucker Creek Australian Shepherds. Tanya has run a successful herding program at Tucker Creek since 1995, encompassing herding classes and clinics, and trials in the AHBA and CKC programs. Tanya and a group of local herding enthusiasts also formed TBAHBAH, an informal herding association, to organise and host herding events. With Thunder Bay being at quite a distance from any other trial opportunities (6 hours drive minimum) this group realised that the ASCA program could give them an additional venue in which to trial locally. It also would give CKC-ineligible dogs a trial venue, and draw larger entries from the surrounding area (Manitoba, Minnesota) in ASCA as well as the existing venues, creating more cost-effective programs.

While the Herding program is currently the most active TBASCO program, the club also has a goal to develop opportunities for owners of all dogs - including non-aussies and mixed breeds  in the many other ASCA events available.   We have therefore set up the following Committees: Obedience, Conformation, Juniors, Tracking, and Agility.  Many members are interested in these activities and are already active and experienced in other venues besides ASCA.  Using the existing expertise, and growing interest in these sports, we hope to further develop programs and events in these areas as the club grows.
